Choreographic Forces: Staging Awkwardness, RISD MFA Thesis book, 2019

The tools of graphic design have certain choreographic forces that determine how a graphic designer will create and see the content. Whether working with analog tools or digital, they are involved in the design process. I am interested in making performative features of the tool visible. My work aims to foreground the tools themselves as active participants capable of informing, directing, and misaligning the final output rather than merely facilitating the design’s production.


그래픽 디자인에 사용되는 도구들은 동적인 힘을 지니고 있다. 도구들이 움직이는 방식은 그래픽 디자이너가 어떻게 컨텐츠를 만들고 보는 지를 결정한다. 아날로그/디지털 도구이든 모든 도구들은 디자인 과정에 참여한다. 이 책은 그래픽 디자이너의 도구가 갖고 있는 퍼포퍼먼스적인 특징을 어떻게 디자인의 최종 결과물에 참여시킬수 있을지에 대해 모색한다.
